The theater of the absurd

The security council voted against setting a time table for Israel to relinquish control over Judea and Smaria by 2017.
The resolution did not pass as it needed 9 members to vote for it, it received eight votes and the US did not have to use its veto to annul the vote.
The whole process is absurd for the following reasons.
There is no real Palestinian state and there never will be one.
Even if the vote passed somehow it would have rejected by the Hamas, Jihad, Isil and others.
Even if the vote passed Israel could not and would not have accepted the outcome.
Besides the Palestinians have proved over and over that they just want to go through the motions of negotiation and never really reach any conclusions.
The process here is important.
Reaching any conclusion is an anathema to the Arabs.
They do not and will not accept a Jewish presence in the land of Israel.
There will never be a Palestinian state for so many reasons.
That does not stop the whole world from talking about a 2 state solution.
This conflict is unsolvable.
It is containable.
Constantly talking about something that will never happen is not helpful.
It is the theater of the absurd.

Israeli elections, Palestinian statehood, what a mess!

The Palestinians or at least that what they call themselves seek a state so they claim.
They are trying to push through the security council a resolution that will force Israel to go back to the lines of the pre 1967 six day war.
The deadline for this is unclear either 2016 or 2017.
Both deadlines are bogus as all know that they cannot and will not be met.
It is a game that is being played and that will allow the officials of the authority to continue thing willo travel the world and live lavish lifestyles.
Nothing will come out of all this as no government can ever agree to the displacement of 700,000 people from Judea Samaria and East Jerusalem.
Their insistence of the Arabs to never recognize a Jewish state and ask for things that they will never receive is a strategic move.
The long term plan is to weaken the resolve of Israel and then destroy it.
This will not work but they keep on trying.
Its all about destroying Israel slowly.
It will not work.
Different methods have been tried in the last 100 years.
This method will not work either.
The Arabs do not get it really.
What a waste of time and energy!

The Event

Many Israeli supporters are nervous over the upcoming attempt in September to announce a Palestinian state at the United Nations. As negotiations with Israel have broken down the Arab side seeks unilateral recognition of a state in all of Judea and Samaria that came under Israeli military control in the 1967 six day war.

There is little to worry about.
The entrance of Palestine to the league of nations at the UN will have little effect on the ground, if any at all. Those who believed that negotiations could bridge or solve any problems may be disappointed. Those who never believed in the viability of such talks are not surprised.
It’s a paper tiger this threat of the Palestinians and no more.
What might happen the day after the announcement?

1. All Palestinian police cars will be off limits on Roads in Judea and Samaria
2. Serious rioting in different places in Judea and Samaria
3. Israel starting the process of annexation of large parts of Judea and Samaria
It’s only a few months away

Should be interesting.

I told you so

Everybody hates it when you say to them I told you so.

But... I told you so. This can never work.

I wonder what odds Jimmy the Greek would give for the current peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians to succeed. 100 to 1, 1000 to 1. The house would win on this one. There is no chance that anything good will come out of these talks, only frustration and violence. The Arabs is being asked for very little right now just some symbolic statements that they find difficult to implement. When I say difficult I mean impossible. Israel’s Prime Minister wants a simple statement from a weak leader of part of the national Palestinian movement that recognizes Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish people.
He cannot bring himself to make this statement.
This is before discussions on the other seemingly insurmountable issues that the Arab side does not seem to budge on even one millimeter.
Benjamin Netanyahu who was elected by a constituency that is against overtures to the Arab side is being pushed to extend a building freeze that none of his voters want. Even if he does extend somewhat this freeze it won’t make any real difference in the success of the negotiations.

They will fail.

Not complicated.

Get ready for war.

Here we go again.

Theater of the absurd
Here we go again.
Peace talks are underway again between Israel and Arabs of Israel ( they call themselves Palestinians )
This has been talked about for the last 25 years and will probably be talked about in another 25 years. Is it cynical to say that there is no chance for this to happen? It might be but does that change the reality? It does not. They are talking peace or so they say. Benjiman Netanyahu is demanding a recognition of Israel as the nation State of the Jewish people. They have steadfastly refused to do this or even compromise on one inch of territory that they claim. Why will he change now? The answer is that he won’t change. The most extreme concessions thinkable by any Israeli is far less than the minimal concessions the Arab side is ready to accept.
Some simple examples.
The Demand a complete withdrawal of Israel form all territories captured in 1967 including east Jerusalem. Israel is ready to withdraw from some areas in the west bank and will not even talk about east Jerusalem. There are another 4 similar insurmountable issues that just do not have a solution. No matter how you slice it.
As these talks crumble as they most certainly will things will get worse before they get better.

It won’t be pretty.

What a waste of time!

Proximity Talks

So many have waited so long for so little. The proximity talks between the Israelis and Palestinians have started in earnest, well sort of. In the meantime the Arab side has initiated economic sanctions on all goods produced in Judea and Samaria as well as started the process of trying to kick Israel out of the UN. Israel has agreed to lift many blockades and give access to roads where previous terror attacks occurred. It wants to better the life of the average Palestinian in the hopes that this will bring about reconciliation. The Palestinians seem to want no part of this. In the words of the prime Minister they would like to perpetuate the conflict forever. The Israelis are demanding direct talks for anything of real substance to be discussed. There does not seem to be any reaction from the Palestinian side.

The talks are going nowhere fast. No real surprises here.

Hail to the chump

Obama doesn’t seem to get it

President Barak Obamas keynote speech in Cairo last week has been dissected from all sides by very many people. Some things most agree on. That his rhetorical abilities are considerable and that he is a bit naive.

There seemed to be a clear slight by the Egyptian President who did not bother meeting Obama at the airport and did not sit in on his speech. Hosni Mubarek clearly feels that he is dealing with a amateur as leader of the free world and the snubs seem to reflect that. He is being severely tested by the North Koreans as his economic recovery plan seems to be teetering. He firmly believes that peace is possible everywhere even in the troubled middle east. He really believes that if Israel stops settlement activity or even removes settlements a Israeli state and a Palestinian State can live side by side. He really believes the new government of Benjamin Netanyahu will implement policy that is in direct contradiction to its party platform.

This is all a lot of hogwash of course as the chances for true peace are many years away. The Palestinian state that Obama wants so much is the worst thing that can happen to Jews and Arabs alike. It will bring misery and poverty to the Arabs and a security disaster to Israel.

The Israeli Prime Minister is to be giving a major Foreign policy speech next week to make clear Israel’s foreign Policy.

Hey at least the speech writers are making a living.

War in the Gaza strip

Well here we go again,

Israel is about to initiate another severe military action against the Hamas in the Gaza strip. This cease fire did not last as long as even the pessimists thought it would. It has broken down with some deadly missiles barely missing a kindergarten and another rocket injuring three people. It’s unclear whether Olmert understands that the Army cannot leave territory that it captures in the strip. It needs simply to destroy the Hamas army and kill all its soldiers. Nothing less will do.

The Israeli military has seemed to make a major comeback after a particular bad showing in the second Lebanon war a number of years ago. Its showing in Israel’s offensive that ended with a unilateral cease fire was impressive. It will need to be in top form as there seems to be no real choice but the complete eradication of the Hamas. The Hamas has gained confidence in all the flack that Israel and its military have received from around the world. It believes Olmert and his government will not be capable in really pressing ahead. Olmert may completely surprise them and even himself as politically he has nothing to lose. His term as prime minister is about to end and he doesn’t want to be remembered as a loser.

If Israel does react hard and the military merry go round continues there will be elections during war time. That will be a first for Israel and may have practical results as many soldiers will not be able to vote. The soldiers generally vote more right wing.

We will all have to wait to see what happens.

It won’t be pretty
